The Art of Pointillism
Pointillism is a technique where drawings are rendered only in dots or
stipples as they are called (this can be seen more clearly in the close up of the
owl's eye). How light or dark an area is depends upon the size of the stipples
used and their proximity to each other. The process is time consuming but the
final effect is worth the effort.
I was introduced to this technique
while in high school; I instantly fell
in love with it. I have been
employing the technique off and on
for over thirty years. The average
drawing takes between sixteen and
twenty-four hours of actual stippling
to complete.
   There is nothing like the
feeling you get when you stipple
that last dot, finishing a drawing
you have been working on for
weeks, months... even longer.
